NSS

National Service Scheme, under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports Govt. of India, popularly known as NSS was launched in Gandhiji's Birth Centenary Year 1969. In India, the idea of involving students in the task of national service dates back to the times of Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the nation. The central theme which he tried to impress upon his student audience time and again, was that they should always keep before them, their social responsibility. The first duty of the students should be, not to treat their period of study as one of the opportunities for indulgence in intellectual luxury, but for preparing themselves for final dedication in the service of those who provided the sinews of the nation with the national goods & services so essential to society.

The C.T.Bora college has a huge contingent of 250 NSS volunteers . NSS camps are organized in every winter in a different village. The ten-day winter camp helps students understand and identify specific problems in that village and during this period they undertake several voluntary works . Students undertake various surveys to get to the facts of rural life. Programmes like soil conservation, rain water harvesting, tree plantation, health awareness campaigns are undertaken by the students during such camps. The NSS volunteers play a very active and creative role during various social events like the Ganesh festival and the annual village fair which attract huge crowds and they also undertake several social awareness programmes like organizing street plays that educate people on how to fight superstitions and the spread of HIV. The college conducts a general knowledge test for school children every year in which thousands of students from the neighboring three talukas participate with great enthusiasm and competitive rigour. Our students work as volunteers during these tests and work as invigilators and examiners, an exercise that gives them a direct experience of conducting an examination. The college organizes blood donation camps which see large scale participation of students every year.
